Market lanes
Pratunam Market, the Baiyoke-side streets and the morning-market area described near Soi Phetchaburi 21.
Pratunam (ประตูน้ำ) is the garment-trading area around Pratunam Market, the Baiyoke towers and the indoor shopping buildings along Phetchaburi Road. The market lanes and The Platinum Fashion Mall are the main reasons to come; Krung Thong Plaza, Phenix and the Baiyoke Sky viewpoints add different kinds of shopping, food and city views. Choose one or two destinations rather than assuming they form a continuous walk, especially while Orange Line construction affects the junction. One stop can fill part of a morning or afternoon, while combining the market with a mall or viewpoint can take a flexible half day.
Details may change — verify before visiting.
Pratunam's water-gate name now belongs to a garment district built around outdoor wholesale lanes and indoor fashion malls.
The name Pratunam means water gate. OKMD's historical account connects it with the Sa Pathum water-control gate, where traders waiting for passage began selling produce and food. Markets later moved onto land, roads changed the district, and garments replaced agricultural goods as the defining trade.
The present district is not one market building. Pratunam Market (ตลาดประตูน้ำ) occupies lanes and street-level shops; The Platinum Fashion Mall (แพลทินัม แฟชั่น มอลล์) brings more than 2,500 shops indoors; Krung Thong Plaza (กรุงทอง พลาซา) concentrates fashion in sizes from S to 6XL; Indra Square (อินทรา สแควร์) sits among the Baiyoke-side trading streets; and Phenix Pratunam (ฟีนิกซ์ ประตูน้ำ) has turned the former Pantip site toward food wholesale and dining.
Construction is part of the visit in 2026. MRTA closed the Pratunam overpass from 22:00 on April 24, 2026, with the announced closure running until February 11, 2027. Ground-level road traffic continues under signal control, but the notice does not promise a complete pedestrian detour, so choosing one exact destination is more useful than arriving with a fixed circuit.
Pratunam rewards attention to work. A shopper comparing sizes, a buyer checking quantities, a porter moving a bundle and a restaurant serving traders all use the same streets for different purposes. Standing aside, asking before taking close photographs and keeping entrances clear are part of understanding the place.
Pratunam began with traders waiting for water to move and still depends on making room for goods to pass.

Pratunam here means the garment-trading area spanning the Baiyoke-side market lanes, indoor trading buildings along Phetchaburi Road and Pratunam intersection. It is not the whole of Ratchathewi district, and centralwOrld (เซ็นทรัลเวิลด์) lies outside this boundary.
Loading the real boundary…
Pratunam Market, the Baiyoke-side streets and the morning-market area described near Soi Phetchaburi 21.
The Platinum Fashion Mall, Krung Thong Plaza, Indra Square and Phenix along or near Phetchaburi Road.
Pratunam intersection and its construction works shape access but are not attractions in their own right.
Use the Ratchaprarop side for the Baiyoke towers and market lanes, or the Phetchaburi side for Platinum and Phenix. The junction between them is affected by Orange Line work, so check the crossing needed for your chosen destination.
Treat these as independent choices, not numbered stages of one guaranteed walk. Airport Rail Link Ratchaprarop Station suits the Baiyoke side, BTS Chit Lom approaches from the south, and the Saen Saep boat serves Pratunam Pier; check current service and the final crossing on the day.
Phenix advertises parking, but road access around Pratunam intersection is affected by the overpass closure; check the chosen venue's directions before driving.

Use Pratunam Market for street-level wholesale lanes, or Platinum for an indoor shop directory and category-based floors.
Both sit on the Phetchaburi side, but check the exact entrance and current construction barriers before setting out.
Ratchaprarop Station serves the Baiyoke side; Chit Lom Station and Pratunam Pier approach from other directions. None removes the need to check the final crossing.
Clothes may move through the market in tied bundles, bags and carts. A gap that looks like standing space can be part of somebody's delivery path.
Platinum divides its floors into zones and named shop rows, turning the wholesale-lane pattern into an indoor directory.
The Baiyoke towers rise above the market side and help separate it visually from the Platinum and Phenix side of Phetchaburi Road.
The closed overpass does not mean the junction has disappeared: ground-level road traffic continues under signals while Orange Line work occupies the area.
Indian and Thai cooking with South Indian specialities and halal options; the operator presents it as a fine-dining restaurant.
North and South Indian dishes, with a supplied price band of about ฿200–300.
South Indian vegetarian cooking, with a supplied price band of about ฿100–200.
Kathiyawadi Gujarati vegetarian food in a dhaba-style restaurant.
An Indian restaurant associated with the Pratunam dining area; no price band is available.
Pratunam's restaurant data points strongly toward Indian food, including vegetarian regional cooking. Cholas and Malgudi have current operator pages; check the other venues before making a special trip for one.
Spending reaches different parts of Pratunam depending on where you buy: independent lane stalls, mall tenants, food wholesalers, restaurants and hotels operate as separate businesses.
The available restaurant price bands cover only Malgudi and Shree Bhavan. Menus and opening status can change.
The practical challenge is shared working space: narrow lanes, goods in motion, separate entrances and a junction under construction.
The easiest way to watch market work is from a doorway recess or wider section where carts and bundles can pass.
Close photographs of workers, customers and shop interiors need permission.
Construction arrangements can change independently of shop hours, so check the exact road crossing needed for the return journey.
Keep phones, wallets and shopping bags controlled in narrow aisles and while boarding boats or trains.
A mall's opening time does not establish the hours of the outdoor market, morning stalls or every tenant.
Choose the time from the destination, not from a single Pratunam timetable. Platinum currently posts 09:00–20:00 and Baiyoke posts 10:00–22:00, while available morning-market guidance dates from 2020.
One market, mall or viewpoint can be treated as a focused stop. Allow a flexible half day when combining two layers, with extra time for construction crossings.

Pratunam means water gate. OKMD connects the name with the Sa Pathum water-control gate, where traders waiting for passage began selling goods.
No. The Platinum Fashion Mall is one indoor fashion complex. Pratunam also includes outdoor market lanes, Baiyoke-side trading buildings, Krung Thong Plaza, Indra Square, Phenix and the junction itself.
Do not plan around that time without a fresh check. The Tourism Authority of Thailand page carrying those hours dates from January 9, 2020.
MRTA announced that the Pratunam overpass would close from 22:00 on April 24, 2026, until February 11, 2027. Ground-level road traffic continues under signals, but the notice does not provide a complete pedestrian detour.
The Thai Cartoon Library (ห้องสมุดการ์ตูนไทย) appears in the tourism data, but an older report places it in Soi Phayanak, outside this Pratunam boundary. Its current operation is unconfirmed, so it is not a route stop.
No. The supplied activity was Holi Festival Thailand 2024, held from March 22 to March 24, 2024. Its Bangkok colour event was at centralwOrld, outside this boundary, and the event is in the past.
