Station core
Sam Yot MRT Station and the Charoen Krung–Maha Chai junction establish the centre and the three exit directions.
Sam Yot (สามยอด) is the station-centred pocket around The Old Siam Plaza, Mega Plaza Saphan Lek, Chalermkrung Royal Theatre, two places of worship, Khlong Ong Ang and Rommaninat Park. The station is the starting point, but shopping and cultural venues are the reasons to leave it. Allow 2–3 hours for either the shopping-and-worship direction or the park side; seeing everything calls for a longer half day and several road crossings.
Details may change — verify before visiting.
Sam Yot turns one MRT stop into a half-day of specialist shopping, live khon, worship and a park made from former prison grounds.
Sam Yot makes sense as a trading neighbourhood first. Mega Plaza Saphan Lek carries the toy, model and camera trade associated with the former canal stalls, while The Old Siam Plaza concentrates Thai sweets, cloth, silk, jewellery, amulets and electrical goods inside a five-floor centre. These are places people come to buy specific things, not decorative stops on an old-town walk.
Chalermkrung Royal Theatre gives the area a second reason to visit. Its current Hanuman programme compresses khon into a 25-minute performance with live Thai music, spoken narration and multilingual subtitles. It can sit between breakfast and shopping, but its programme and ticket terms deserve checking before the day is built around it.
Wat Thip Wari Wihan and Gurudwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha keep worship in the middle of the commercial streets. The temple's tourism history reaches back to 1776, while the gurdwara remains connected to Bangkok's Sikh institution and current religious programme. Both ask for the behaviour of a guest, not the pace of a checklist.
North of the station, Rommaninat Park changes the story again. The former prison ground now carries the names Old Prison Gate Forecourt and Lan Sang Samrit, but the museum collection moved to Nonthaburi. Sam Yot is clearest when the modern station, current shops, worship spaces, park and relocated museum are allowed to keep their separate roles.
The Saphan Lek toy trade did not vanish when the canal stalls came down; Bangkok says most traders moved across to Mega Plaza.

Sam Yot (สามยอด) here means the station-centred neighbourhood around the Charoen Krung–Maha Chai junction, the shopping and worship streets to the southwest, the Khlong Ong Ang edge and Rommaninat Park. It is a neighbourhood name rather than a legal district: an older Sam Yot district was merged into Phra Nakhon in 1928. This is not Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park in Prachuap Khiri Khan, and it does not include the full Phahurat, Ban Mo, Khlong Thom or Giant Swing areas.
Loading the real boundary…
Sam Yot MRT Station and the Charoen Krung–Maha Chai junction establish the centre and the three exit directions.
Chalermkrung Royal Theatre, The Old Siam Plaza, Wat Thip Wari Wihan, Gurudwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha, Mega Plaza and the adjoining canal section form the main visitor area.
Rommaninat Park and the Old Prison Gate Forecourt sit north of the station and form a separate ending reached according to current gates and crossings.
Start at Sam Yot MRT Station (สถานีสามยอด). Exit 3 points toward The Old Siam Plaza, Wat Thip Wari Wihan, Phahurat and Ban Mo; Exit 1 points toward Mega Plaza and Rommaninat Park; Exit 2 has the station lift and ramp.
Treat these as two possible outings, not a promised step-free loop. The longer sequence follows Exit 3 through theatre, shopping and worship before reaching the Khlong Ong Ang edge; the shorter alternative uses Exit 1 for Mega Plaza and Rommaninat Park.

Follow the station signs toward Chalermkrung Royal Theatre, The Old Siam Plaza and Wat Thip Wari Wihan, adding the gurdwara and canal edge if crossings suit.
Use Mega Plaza as the shopping stop, then continue toward Rommaninat Park by a route checked on the day.
The lift and ramp help with the station level only; inspect the pavement and return crossing before continuing.
The station entrance uses green-and-cream historic-style details even though the MRT station is contemporary.
Bangkok installed five art manhole covers along Khlong Ong Ang: designs for Khlong Ong Ang, Phahurat and Phra Nakhon on one side, and Sawasdee and Samphanthawong on the other.
The Old Siam Plaza's rows of cloth, sweets and specialist shops deliberately recall the former Ming Mueang Market on the site.
Old Prison Gate Forecourt and Lan Sang Samrit preserve distinct names from the site's earlier life instead of turning the whole park into a museum.

Eggs, toast and hot drinks at a breakfast shop near Exit 3; dishes around ฿100–200.
Pan eggs, Vietnamese-style filled bread and Ceylon tea, with dishes under ฿100.
Pad thai close to the station, with dishes up to ฿100.
Muslim and halal made-to-order dishes in the Phahurat-facing streets, generally up to ฿100.

Browse Thai sweets and prepared food alongside cloth, silk and jewellery stalls.
Breakfast shops and Thai sweets fit naturally around an early start. Pad Thai Pinned and On Lok Yun have active official pages; opening status for the other food names can change, so check before making a trip for one.
Useful food bands are up to ฿100 at Pad Thai Pinned, Nai Kai Krata and Mariam, and around ฿100–200 at On Lok Yun. Menus and ticket terms can change.
The main friction begins after leaving the station: lifts, pavements, crossings and venue entrances are separate parts of the journey.
Before crossing away from the station, identify a return route that suits; a different gate or shortcut may not work later.
Station doors, lifts and shop entrances are circulation spaces, so take photographs without blocking passengers, workers or shoppers.
At Wat Thip Wari Wihan and the gurdwara, follow posted instructions, keep voices low and ask before photographing people.
The park circuit and forecourts serve exercise and everyday recreation; pause away from the walking route when reading signs or taking photographs.
Retained prison buildings and fenced areas are not an invitation to enter. The museum collection has moved from this site.
Morning suits On Lok Yun or Nai Kai Krata and the park. Chalermkrung's current khon programme runs in the afternoon, while TAT advertises Khlong Ong Ang's walking-street activity for selected weekend evenings; check both schedules.
Allow 2–3 hours for either the shopping-and-worship direction or the station-and-park direction. Drop stops when crossings, gates or performance times do not align.
Some of these sit just outside this page’s area — flagged below.

Specialist shopping at Mega Plaza and The Old Siam Plaza, khon at Chalermkrung Royal Theatre, the two worship sites, Khlong Ong Ang and Rommaninat Park.
Past programmes used Phahurat and Khlong Ong Ang in late October or November. Dates change each year, and no 2026 programme is established in the sources used here.
