Temple core
Wat Bang Kradi is the named religious and cultural starting point. Current temple activity determines how far an independent visit can proceed.
Wat Bang Kradi (วัดบางกระดี่) brings together a temple, a Mon cultural centre, a school and the edge of Sanam Chai Canal (คลองสนามชัย). The temple is the public starting point, while household crafts and the museum belong to guided or institution-led formats. Plan either one authorised programme or a short visit to the public edge designated by the temple. Do not use the homes named in past programmes as a self-guided route.
Details may change — verify before visiting.
Wat Bang Kradi is a Mon community temple whose deeper cultural story opens through authorised guides and institutions, not through unannounced visits to homes.
Wat Bang Kradi sits at the centre of a Mon community story with more than one published migration account. Temple architecture and relationships with Mon communities in Samut Sakhon also support an interpretation of age and connection, but not a single conclusive founding narrative. The useful approach is to keep those accounts beside one another and let community voices explain their differences.
The museum story gives the cultural centre a clear purpose. The tourism description says Thawatphong Monda (ธวัธพงศ์ มอญดะ) founded the Folk Wisdom Museum at Wat Bang Kradi in 1995 after outsiders began buying old community objects. Displays were assembled beneath a house and in a riverside pavilion, with material on Mon weddings, ordinations, funerals, kitchens, clothing, ceremonial vessels, basketry, instruments, Buddha images and a ceremonial palanquin. No current public notice sets out walk-in hours, so that history does not guarantee entry.
The March 2026 One Day Trip showed how fuller access can work. Young community guides led scheduled visits involving a sweet-making home (บ้านขนม), a sabai-cloth home (บ้านผ้าสไบ), other household crafts, the museum and workshops. Mon thayae (ทะแยมอญ) adds another layer: its named instruments include saw mon (ซอมอญ), jakhe mon (จะเข้มอญ), Mon flute (ขลุ่ยมอญ), poeng mang (เปิงมาง) and ching (ฉิ่ง). These details give the tradition a material sound without promising that a visitor will hear it performed.
The homes named in a guided programme are part of its access agreement, not pins for an independent walk.

Wat Bang Kradi (วัดบางกระดี่) means the Bangkok temple on Bang Kradi Road and its immediate relationships with the Mon cultural centre, Wat Bang Kradi School and Sanam Chai Canal. It is not Wat Bang Kadi (วัดบางกะดี) in Pathum Thani, and the approximate boundary does not make community homes public places.
Loading the real boundary…
Wat Bang Kradi is the named religious and cultural starting point. Current temple activity determines how far an independent visit can proceed.
The Bang Kradi Mon Art and Cultural Centre (ศูนย์ศิลปวัฒนธรรมมอญ บางกระดี่), Wat Bang Kradi School (โรงเรียนวัดบางกระดี่) and Sanam Chai Canal relate directly to the story, but each has separate access and privacy conditions.
Craft and food homes named in the March 2026 programme belong only to an authorised guided format. They are not independent route stops.
Wat Bang Kradi stands on Bang Kradi Road in Samae Dam, Bang Khun Thian. Its northern edge meets Sanam Chai Canal, but canal-side surfaces and connections should be checked close to the visit.
This is not a self-guided route through community homes. Songthaew route 1497 serves Wat Bang Kradi; check its live route before travelling. Without an authorised programme, keep the visit to the public edge designated by the temple and leave the cultural centre, school and households out of the walk unless permission is explicit.

Use a new public institutional notice if future dates are announced. The March 2026 format included guides, named homes, museum material and hands-on activities.
When no programme is running, finish at the public area the temple designates instead of searching for the museum or household workshops.
Transport sources identify route 1497 between Rang Pho Road and Wat Bang Kradi. Timings and the return should be checked on the day.
The March 2026 programme highlighted a carved standing Buddha described as more than 150 years old. Look only from an area the temple permits.
If authorised museum entry is offered, look beyond display labels to the Mon kitchen, ceremonial vessels, basketry, instruments and palanquin that connect objects to ceremonies and daily life.
The artwork belongs beside Wat Bang Kradi School, where classes, children and staff take priority over photography.
The canal meets the temple's northern edge and links the temple setting to the museum's riverside pavilion. Check the condition of any canal-side edge before approaching it.

Thai tabletop barbecue, with a price band around ฿300–400.
A noodle shop named for its pak pao style.
Five named food places appear around Wat Bang Kradi. Current opening has not been checked for these venues, so check before making a trip for one.
The 2026 programme placed sweet-making, sabai embroidery and workshops inside a community-guided format. Spend directly when the holders open that format instead of approaching homes independently.
Roi Lan Mookata shows ฿300–400; other meal and workshop prices need checking.
The main considerations are worship, school privacy, household permission, canal edges and the return journey.
Temple ceremonies and religious use take priority. Modest clothing and a low voice are appropriate, and photography should wait for permission.
Wat Bang Kradi School is an operating school. Avoid photographing students or entering its grounds without permission.
Sweet-making, sabai-cloth and other homes should be visited only through the format their holders authorise.
Surface conditions and barriers along the canal have not been checked end to end, so assess the edge before moving closer.
Route 1497 information can change. Check the live return option before committing to a programme or temple visit.
Use a date and format announced by an authorised community or public institution. Without one, choose a permitted temple edge and let current worship or school activity set the limit.
Allow the time stated by an authorised programme. An independent visit should remain short if access beyond the temple edge is unclear.
Not by default. These homes were named within scheduled guided programmes, so entry should follow a new format authorised by the household and organiser.
The centre appears in tourism and cultural inventories, but no current public notice sets out walk-in hours or an independent visit format. Check for a fresh institutional announcement.
A short visit may be possible at the public edge designated by the temple. Do not extend that into the school, cultural centre or community homes without permission.
Published sources present more than one migration account, while another interpretation draws on temple architecture and links with Mon communities in Samut Sakhon. Keep the differences visible instead of choosing one account for the whole community.
The cultural record explains the musical forms and names five instruments, but it does not promise a performance. Look for an authorised programme that specifically includes music.
Songthaew route 1497 serves Wat Bang Kradi from the Rang Pho Road direction. Check the live route, timing and return before travelling.
